Introduction
In today's blog, we're diving into a review of the popular Hidizs MP145 Planar Magnetic Driver In-ear Monitors. These IEMs feature an impressive 14.5mm Ultra-Large Planar Magnetic Driver. This review will help you decide if the Hidizs MP145 deserves a place in your collection.
Design and Build Quality
The Hidizs MP145 boasts a shell made from aviation-grade aluminum alloy, ensuring durability and a premium feel. The faceplate design is inspired by the majestic whale, adding a unique aesthetic touch. The stock eartips are equipped with a fixed 3.5mm or 4.4mm audio jack. However, the cable feels thin and somewhat flimsy, which is an area where Hidizs could improve by offering a more robust, modular cable. While the overall design is commendable, the build quality of the IEM shell stands out as particularly impressive.
Comfort and Fit
The Hidizs MP145 has a large shell with a thick, wide nozzle. After trying all the stock eartips, I found the best fit with SpinFit W1 eartips, which provided a good seal and excellent isolation. However, the weight of the shell can lead to fatigue after about an hour of use. If you have smaller ears, I recommend trying them out before making a purchase, as the fit may be challenging.
Sound Quality
For this review, I paired the Hidizs MP145 with the stock 4.4mm cable, SpinFit W1 eartips, and the HiBy R8 II digital audio player as the source. The Hidizs MP145 is a well-tuned IEM, offering a blend of technical precision and musicality. To truly appreciate its capabilities, a high-quality portable DAC & AMP is essential. The Hidizs MP145 scales impressively with a powerful source, delivering an incredible orchestral sound experience.
Bass
Given that the Hidizs MP145 uses a planar driver, I wasn’t expecting the kind of powerful bass typical of dynamic drivers. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the depth and impact Hidizs has achieved. Both the sub-bass and mid-bass have excellent weight and body, producing bass that is engaging, powerful, rumbly, and clean.
Midrange
The midrange performance of the Hidizs MP145, especially in handling male and female vocals, is a highlight. Vocals are warm, lush, and clear, with no noticeable sharpness or sibilance. The slightly forward placement of vocals is smooth and enjoyable. The upper midrange provides just enough energy to keep listeners engaged, with balanced note weight and natural timbre. Overall, the midrange is exceptionally well-tuned.
Treble
The treble of the Hidizs MP145 is sparkly and crisp, yet smooth. It has enough energy to keep you hooked, delivering a detailed, layered, and clean sound. The treble offers a mesmerizing experience with exceptional clarity, shimmer, airiness, and openness.
Soundstage & Imaging
The soundstage of the Hidizs MP145 is spacious and wide, with decent depth. Imaging is accurate, allowing you to perceive distance and direction with ease.
Filters
- Rose Gold (Balanced Sounding): This default filter offers a balanced sound, and my impressions above are based on using this filter.
- Silver (Treble Boost): This filter slightly reduces bass quantity while adding more sparkle and energy to the treble. The midrange remains similar to the rose gold filter.
- Red (Bass Boost): As the name suggests, this filter enhances sub-bass and mid-bass, but at the cost of slightly reduced treble energy and sparkle. The midrange is also slightly recessed compared to the rose gold filter.
These evaluations were made after using the default rose gold filter for over 15 days. I recommend spending time with the default filter before experimenting with others to notice the differences. Ultimately, I preferred the rose gold filter for my listening.
